Moving people’s household goods what moving companies do.  A mover can often have someone’s worldly goods in their van.  But, when it comes to moving their money, customers could be trusting someone with their entire life savings.  That can be really scary, so how can the mover help?

Most customers just use their bank.  They trust them because they have been with them all their lives. But there is a better way.  In his presentation in Lisbon, Robbie Lightfoot from Currencies Direct explained how moving companies can help their customers to transfer their money safely and relatively cheaply, saving themselves a lot of money. At the same time the moving companies can earn commission that provides them with a significant, ongoing revenue stream, simply for making an introduction. Yet, still, most don’t.  Why?

“We are fortunate to have very strong reputation and hundreds of thousands of clients have trusted us with their money,” said Robbie. “This has helped lead to a strong reputation in the industry through our partners. The main challenge is habit.” Sales staff are understandably focussed on converting each job; they are not used to introducing another topic. But offering to move their money is not only profitable, it’s a differentiator - it might help seal the deal.

It’s such a simple thing to ask a potential customer if they would like some help transferring their money. Once the recommendation is made, the job is done.  Currencies Direct then contacts the customer and helps them through the whole process. “It’s not an automated system, they deal with real people all the way,” said Robbie. If they are nervous, which they will be, they can do trial transfers, so they know the system can be trusted.  Each time, the mover gets a commission, and the customer saves money. What’s not to like?

Movers move much more than furniture. They move boats, cars, caravans, pets. They provide insurance. They offer storage. They sell materials. Customers already trust their movers, why not get into the habit of helping them move their money too? It’s all part of the service!
